Child's name: AnthonyNumber: C5327 Birthdate: 5/94 State: Washington Listed: 1/04, Updated 8/09 Thumbnail photograph by Yuen Lui If you have completed an adoption homestudy and would like to have your information forwarded to this child's worker, contact us. Bright, attractive, and engaging, ANTHONY (5/94) is an endearing teenager who can be tons of fun. He has a good sense of humor and relates well to adults and to peers. The ease with which he displays good manners in public is nice asset. One of his favorite activities is going out to theaters to see movies. Other pastimes are riding his bike, playing video games and basketball, and spending time with kids in the neighborhood. An avid Mariners fan, he loves baseball. Last year he had the opportunity to go to a Mariners game with seats by home plate. He met the Moose (the team mascot), and received a team jersey. He loved it! Awhile back, Anthony participated at Sylvan Learning Center, and since then he has had many A’s and B’s on his report cards. Inquisitive and surprisingly open to challenges and new adventures, Anthony has developed a great interest in ancient Chinese and Egyptian ruins. Anthony has graduated from counseling with a great prognosis and a good set of guidelines from his therapist to follow him to a new home. Anthony benefits greatly from having structured environments at home and school where rules, expectations, and limits are clear. Having parent(s) and teachers that are able to truly listen to him and respond in calm, patient, unhurried ways are especially important in helping Anthony. Although Anthony’s word comprehension and language skills are at or above age-level, when overly excited, he may stutter and his speech can seem pressured, as if his mind is racing faster than he can say his words. Usually, though, he is calm, articulate, and quick-witted in conversation. Anthony’s desire to please makes him very responsive to redirection. Tangible rewards can be great motivators for him. His social worker is most interested in talking with prospective adoptive folks who are adept at using redirection and non-authoritarian ways of parenting to achieve positive results. Anthony really needs to be the youngest or only child in his adoptive family. It is not an exaggeration to say that everyone who meets Anthony really likes him. He is a teenager who can be successful in the right situation with nurturing folks who understand his issues and how to reach out to him. Anthony is very capable of forming lasting bonds with the significant folks in his life. Anthony came into foster care in 2002, when his adoption disrupted. His younger sister remains with the family. Anthony is very close to her and is counting on his adoptive folks to help him maintain contact. |
