PLEASE NOTE: Because Alex has overall developmental delays, a hearing loss in one ear, one eye that will likely require surgery to be properly aligned, and severe reflux (despite taking all of his nutrition since birth through a feeding tube!), his adoptive parent(s) should have medical knowledge and the skills to deal with developmental and medical needs,. At two years old, Alexander began taking his first steps; and at two-and-a-half-years old, he is saying his first words. Alexander’s weekly intervention program involves Early Intervention services and Occupational therapy. He is also being seen regularly by a feeding clinic, is on straight Pediasure four times during the day and on a pump at night. His severe reflux interferes with him trying solid foods. Parenting Alex is highly demanding, and the family chosen to adopt him will benefit from having a strong support system of family, friends, and community resources to provide respite and other support. Because of his young age, Alex’s treatment professionals are not able to predict what his future will be. His adoptive folk(s) will need to be prepared to be a resource for him throughout his lifetime, while at the same time encouraging him to reach for some level of independence as an adult. If you have the medical knowledge and skills necessary to meet Alex’s special needs, please call or email us soon. |
