Meet AMANDA (6/92), who is legally free and has just celebrated her 16th birthday! She wants to tell you a bit about herself.

"Hello, I'm Amanda. I'm looking for a special family with a mom who is also a friend. I want her to be someone I can relate to and talk to, who is non-judgmental, accepting, and who can be forgiving of my past mistakes. I'm ready for a new start! People who know me would say I'm driven, persistent, forgiving, and tolerant. I'm hoping for parents with those same qualities."

Amanda is a girl with a quick wit and sense of humor. She laughs often and is optimistic about her future, despite many losses and struggles in her young life. She is also a typical teenager in an atypical situation. She needs adoptive parents to nurture her, and at the same time serve a supportive grandparent role to her baby boy.

Amanda, who has full custody of her infant son, has very good maternal instincts. She is protective and very connected to him. She also needs parents of her own who can help her become independent and who want to see her achieve her potential. Couples who have an overriding emotional need to parent an infant might inadvertently frustrate Amanda's own parenting goals and should not consider adopting this parenting teen.

Amanda would love to have a two-parent adoptive family. She thinks she could also do well in a non-traditional family. Another possibility would be a home with other strong teens or young adults who can model a lifestyle of healthy activities, maturity, and trust in safe adults. It is very important to Amanda to be in a family where trust can develop and grow. She emphasized, "There's got to be trust. If there's no trust, there's nothing."

Amanda's goals are to be a good mother to her young son, finish her education, work part time to meet her child's needs, and enjoy her teen years as she matures. A very pretty, social, open girl, Amanda is working on her organizational and time management skills, as well as controlling her anger. She likes to walk, play tennis, and enjoys family time at home. She would love to have a family who likes camping, has animals, and is very active.

Good communication skills, consistency, established boundaries and rules, and an attitude of acceptant and love are a must to this young adult. She needs adult mentors familiar with community and educational resources, as well as outlets for learning independent living skills. Amanda wishes to remain in proximity to southwestern Idaho in order to maintain occasional contact with her biological family.
