ANTHONY (6/98), or Tony, loves school and loves to learn! A handsome boy with expressive brown eyes, he has a great smile and a kind heart! Tony interacts very well with adults and is working on increasing his social skills with peers. Tony wants to be right in the midst of whatever is going on and thrives on attention from parents and other adults; telling jokes or swapping stories are just some of the ways that he might seek attention. Tony also loves to read and discuss books, as well as watch TV and talk about what he’s learned on the Discovery Channel and the Animal Channel, which have some of his favorite animal programming. Building with Legos and working on model jets are other areas of interest for Tony. Some of his favorite pastimes with his foster family include going to the beach, camping, and fishing.
This past year in foster care was the first year that Tony has had the opportunity to participate in sports. He has had a lot of fun thus far playing basketball and soccer. He’s even finding out that being a bit big for his age can be an advantage.
Academically, Tony does very and is at grade level. But he does benefit from having supportive folk(s) on the home front who are willing to maintain regular contact with his teacher to assure that he is following directions and completing his assigned tasks in the classroom. Due to previous injury to his right eye, Tony wears corrective lenses and when playing outdoors or playing sports, he wears protective goggles.
Tony responds well to structure and positive reinforcement. While Tony is learning to trust the adults in his life to make good choices for him, he needs to have counseling support to help lessen symptoms of past trauma and his fears about the future.
Tony entered foster care in October 2005. He will be counting on his adoptive folk(s) to help him maintain contact as he is growing up with his younger sister and brother and his grandmothers.
The ideal family for will have calm, nurturing, patient parent(s) who will provide the structure, routine, consistency and positive reinforcement that help Tony do well. They will also want to encourage and perhaps participate in his love of learning about the natural world and animals. The right adoptive folk(s) will understand the significant losses Tony has experienced and be prepared to participate with him in counseling as requested.
