Described as kind and compassionate, DEVYN (2/97) is a delightful 11-year-old with a slender build, dark brown hair, and beautiful blue eyes. Devyn, who is open and affectionate, is cooperative, eager to please, and well behaved. Her robust sense of curiosity encourages her to try new experiences and learn new things. Some of her favorite pastimes are reading and playing computer games. Devyn likes animals, too. Cats are likely her favorites.

Devyn came into foster care when her birth mother died accidentially (and quite unexpectedly) in late November 2007. Because of her mother’s poor health prior to her passing, Devyn had been limited in her social interactions and participation in extra curricular activities. Since coming into foster care, however, Devyn has been able to sprend her wings and become quite the social butterfly. She seems to easily make and maintain friendships. And, she is enthusiastic about participtating in games, activities, social events, etc. Devyn particularly likes activities that include going to new places and interacting with all kinds of other kids and adults. Attending camp, for instance, was a neat experience for her.

It was only after her mother’s death that Devyn met her biological father. Although he cannot be a resource for her, she has been developing healthy relationships with paternal family members, particulary her two half-brothers. They have children of their own who are just about Devyn’s age. It is very exciting for Devyn to known that she has other family, as her mother was an only child and there are few, if any, maternal relatives left.

An important task for Devyn’s adoptive family will be to be there for her as she continues to deal with her very real feelings of grief and loss. Devyn has much to contribute to the adoptive family that will support and nurture her while providing the stability she needs to feel safe and secure, and helping her recapture the sense of belonging she had before her mother’s death.
