JUSTINA (11/97), JESSE (6/00), and JASON (7/01) are three loving siblings who are ready for a family of their own. The children are all very engaging and have their own unique, funny personalities. While the children are not yet legally free, there is consent to search for an adoptive family.
Justina, who is more grown up and serious than many girls her age, has black hair and dark brown eyes. Articulate and very conversational, adults and other kids enjoy engaging with her. Adults are often surprised by her insights into issues. Justina loves her brothers very much and living apart from them for the past several months has been hard. She eagerly looks forward to weekends when she gets to visit the boys. The kids all get along famously, despite Justina’s tendency to parent the boys. For the 2008-2009 school year, Justina will be in fifth grade. She has made tremendous gains socially at school and has many friends. Justina really enjoys school where she gets good grades and is very responsible about doing homework. With an active imagination, she enjoys role playing games such as ‘Star Wars’ with her friends at recess. Justina is in counseling with her pediatrician and a mental health therapist.
Jesse is a bright, blue eyed boy with a very funny sense of humor. Loving and affectionate, he gets along very well with others. Since coming into foster care, he’s made amazing developmental progress. He has benefited enormously just from being in school regularly and having a nurturing and healthy home environment. Being held back a year in school seems to have given him a big boost forward. He is now at grade level in reading and almost at grade level in math. In the fall of 2008, Jesse will be in second grade. He loves everything about school, he says. With extra academic supports in the classroom, it is clear that continued nurturing in a structured environment will help Jesse continue to make educational and emotional gains in school. Having parents who will help him increase his basic adaptive living skills will be important, too. Jesse responds well to redirection and time outs. He feels sad when he has misbehaved and is most apt to apologize for his misbehavior.
Jason, who has hazel eyes and brown hair, is very funny and affectionate, although it does take time for him to feel secure in new situations. In the fall, he will also be in second grade. This past year, he received Title 1 assistance at school in reading. Jason, who is pretty much at grade level, is proud of his newly improved reading skills. He even likes to read to others. Jason is extremely attached to both Justina and Jesse. Jason likes to please and wants to do well at home and school.
Justina, Jesse and Jason all have incredibly positive attitudes despite their rough early experiences. All three behave well in public and at the homes of family friends. While they have moments of being rowdy and unruly, they are usually nicely responsive to parental requests to “settle down.” Jesse and Jason, who enjoy attending church, are described as being very good about respecting the belongings of others. All three are excited to know that there are families out there who will want to adopt sibling groups.
What Justina, Jesse and Jason need most of all is a family that will commit to raising them and helping them work through past trauma. The children and their foster parents want to maintain a connection after the kids have successfully transitioned into their adoptive home.
A two-parent household would be ideal! The number of family members doesn’t matter as long as these children get enough individual attention.
