DASHAWN (2/01) is an attractive boy with a very sweet, engaging side to his personality – a side most apparent when he has good behavioral supports in place at home and at school. Last year his first-grade teacher reported that DaShawn seemed to be happy in the classroom and showed compassion towards other children and a desire to be helpful. DaShawn enjoys building things and loves physical activities, such as wrestling, playing T-ball, and swimming. He also enjoys honing his computer skills and playing hand-held video games. Legally free, DaShawn came into care in June 2006.

DaShawn likes his current therapist and continues to do well in counseling where the focus in on relieving his severe symptoms of past trauma and lessening his high energy and attention difficulties. Medication therapy is an important treatment component that helps him to sleep at night and exercise better behavioral controls. These days DaShawn is nicely responsive to clear, firm rules, limits, boundaries, and consistent follow-through for misbehavior. Encouraging him to make further gains will require having highly attentive supervision at home and at school and a lot of one-on-one attention from parent(s) and his teacher on a daily basis.

DaShawn need parent(s) who have lots of patience, calmness, humor, and love to bring to parenting. The parent(s) also must be effective advocates so the DaShawn has the educational, counseling, and developmental supports that he needs to become the best they can be.
