"My name is Vincent. I really like to play flag football, swimming and video games. I also like to eat chocolate waffles. They are my favorite."

Vincent's social worker describes him as "engaging, charming, easy to connect with, and a child who would blossom in the right environment." The current foster parents have stated that he has made good progress in dealing with some of his challenges in their home and that a calm, matter-of-fact parenting style has really benefited Vincent.

Vincent, who was born with a cleft palate, has had several surgeries, and will need at least three more before adulthood. Due to some structural abnormalities, Vincent has some hearing loss as well. As a result of both of these challenges, Vincent's speech is not always clear, but he is making great progress in speech therapy. Potential adoptive parents who are able to continue seeking outside resources to support his continued growth, in his speech, home and school will be a great match for this young man.

Vincent has been emotionally affected by the abuse and neglect he suffered prior to coming into foster care. He developed survival skills that include hoarding and lying behaviors. He currently receives services in the community to assist him to develop more pro-social habits. He has symptoms associated with Asperger’s Syndrome, which is a high functioning form of autism.

Parents who have experience in dealing with children who have faced neglect and loss will be the advocates that this charming young man will need. Vincent also requires parents who can provide a structured environment to help him learn even more coping skills. If you are a family that can differentiate between the child and the challenges, you may be the parent(s) to enjoy this amazing young man. Vincent could continue to maximize his full potential in your loving home.
