ANDREW (6/99) is a slender boy with blond hair and blue eyes, who loves to play video games. He is also a big fan of Star Wars and loves to go camping. To help Andrew go forward in his growth and development, his foster parents and others give him goals and rewards to work toward, which help him to slowly yet surely make needed behavioral changes. Andrew is currently placed with his siblings, which he enjoys.

Legally free, Andrew came into foster care in September 2005. Andrew’s special needs likely have environmental and biological roots (including possible exposure to alcohol and drugs in utero). His early years were rough, and by the time he came into foster, his emotional, behavioral, and educational needs were challenging to him and to others.

Consistent love and understanding, as well as a very structured and very predictable daily routine help him to stay on track. He benefits greatly from having clear rules and limits, goals and rewards, attentive parental supervision to redirect him when needed, and consistent consequences for misbehavior. He also has the therapeutic supports, which help him to experience better control of his attention difficulties and high energy. Andrew also has the therapeutic supports, which help him to experience better control of his attention difficulties and high energy.

For the 2009-2010 school year, Andrew will be in third grade with a 504 behavioral plan.

Andrew’s social worker especially wants to hear from prospective adoptive folk(s) who have a good grasp of the residual effects of early neglect and of possible residual effects exposure to alcohol and drug in utero. With the right supports on the home front and at school, Andrew will have what he needs to be able to be successful in a family. This resilient boy has come through rough early beginnings and needs kind, patient (yet firm!) parent(s) who are willing to hang in there with him over the rough spots.
