Meet TYLER (5/97)! He is a young preteen who is legally free for adoption. He wants to tell you a bit about himself and what he would like in an adoptive family.
"My name is Tyler. I really like to collect things. Some of the things I collect are Matchbox cars, Yugioh cards and Pokemon cards. I want a family who knows what those things are! I also collect basketball and baseball cards, and have some rare ones. Even though I collect a lot of things, I keep my room clean and tidy. I get kinda claustrophobic if my room is a mess or there is a lot of stuff on my desk. I hope I can find a family that also likes to keeps things clean.
I would love to have a mom and a dad. I would like my mom to be kind and generous, who loves me all of the time, and who takes me to do fun activities. I would choose a dad that wants to do hobbies with me. My former adoptive father taught me how to work on cars with him, and he collected Matchbox cars with me. I hope my new dad will also do things like that with me. I also like LEGO, video games, candy, skateboarding, playing soccer, and riding my bike. I have never been camping, but I really want a family who will take me camping and fishing. It's really important to me to have a family because I don't want to be left all alone when I turn 18."
Tyler is an adorable boy who, when he is happy and his mood is stable, can be very engaging, cooperative, and funny. His worker described Tyler as "very charming with an enjoyable personality. Tyler is smart and you can reason and help him problems solve with much success." These strengths have helped Tyler cope with many losses in his life.
Tyler does have contact with his biological mother, which has been maintained for several years. He has learned to count on his birth mother for unconditional love but understands that he cannot live with her. A family for Tyler will need to have a good understanding and commitment to helping him maintain a relationship with her, as well as other important adults in his life.
The adoption team is looking for a family where Tyler can be the youngest or only child. A successful family for Tyler will have a good understanding of severe attachment issues and be willing to stick it out with him even when significant behavioral challenges arise. They should have an understanding of ADHD and be committed to accessing counseling and other resource services that Tyler will undoubtedly need as he adjusts to yet another family. If you think you can be Tyler's permanent family, we'd love to hear from you!
