NITIAI (2/08), pronounced knee-tie, is an adorable baby boy in need of a loving, stable home. He loves to be bundled up and cuddled by his caretakers. He also likes to be tickled behind his ears, which makes him smile. He does make a few cooing sounds at times. His nickname is "Ty.”

Ty has blue eyes, wispy blonde hair and a fair complexion. Although he was probably born full term not much is known about his first two months of life. Prior to be admitted to a hospital at two months of age for a severe illness, he had had a high fever and was experiencing seizures. Doctors determined that he experienced neurological damage as a result of lack of blood flow and lack of oxygen. After treatment, he was placed in a medical foster home.

The GOOD NEWS is that over the past several months in medical foster care, he has made some significant gains! He has learned to feed from a bottle and no longer needs a feeding tube. He is beginning to try solid food now too. He likes rice cereal and sweet potatoes! Medical tests indicate he is able to hear clearly but is unable to see. His blindness is associated with lack of oxygen to the brain rather than damage to the eye itself. While he does continue to experience seizures, medication therapy is helping to manage them. Although not fully confirmed, doctors have indicated it is highly likely Ty has cerebral palsy, but the severity of his condition is not known at this time.

Ty is easily over stimulated but can be calmed by his caretakers. He absolutely loves to be held and cuddled and likes his pacifier. He has learned how to take his pacifier out of his mouth by himself. He has also learned to turn over from back to front and front to back. He can lift up his torso a little bit in preparation for crawling. He has discovered his thumbs and often will suck on his thumb for comfort. He smiles at the sound of familiar voices. Although Ty does not nap much during the day, he regularly sleeps through the night.

Ty is the youngest of five children in his birth family; all of his older siblings are in foster care or are adopted. The families of his older siblings would be open to ongoing contact with Ty if possible.

Ty needs an adoptive home that can provide an environment with low to moderate stimulation. His bedroom should be in a quiet area where he can retreat when he feels too stimulated. The foster home Ty has been living in since he was two months old has several other children and gentle dogs. Ty will need Early Intervention services as well as ongoing specialized medical care to address the neurological damage he has experienced.
