The boys, who both had positive drug screens at birth, are legally free. They came into foster care in March 2007. While Cole and Brendon have never been able to live together, for the last five months, they have been engaged in therapy together twice a month where they are developing their sibling relationship and preparing for adoption. The permanency plan is to place them together in the same adoptive family and give them the opportunity to grow up together as brothers. Both boys have certain special needs which are expected to be resolved as long as their adoptive parents make sure that they have the appropriate resources to address their individual issues. Cole is developmentally delayed in his speech and receives Early Intervention services to help him learn to communicate more effectively. Brendon also receives Early Intervention services to address his hyper-sensitivity issues with feeding, touch, and bathing. A physical therapist also works with him to soften his high muscle tone. These delightful little boys are in need of a loving, patient, committed family who can provide them with loads of parental time and attention. They need a family who understands and can deal with the challenges of raising children who have been exposed to drugs in utero. The boys would benefit greatly from having a stay-at-home parent. They need parents who can advocate for their ever-changing needs and celebrate and accept them as individuals. The boys may benefit with some level of openness with their biological family. |
