Child's name: IsaiaNumber: C7415 Birthdate: 3/97 State: Alaska Listed: June 2009 If you have completed an adoption homestudy
and would like to have your information forwarded to this child's worker, contact
us. Isaia, who has had therapeutic supports in place since coming into care, will need such resources for the foreseeable future as he continues to deal with symptoms of past trauma and his feelings of grief, loss, and abandonment. Over the past several months, he has been able to put to use newly developed coping and social skills which have helped to dramatically improve his interactions with others. Two of his short term goals are continuing to work on increasing his social skills, especially with peers and older children, and to pay more attention to his grooming and appearance. Having his hair cut by a stylist who specializes in ethnic hair has given him a nice boost forward, and his foster parents do their part, too, by encouraging him and giving gentle prompts when needed. Isaia, who may have been exposed prenatally to alcohol and drugs, thinks in very concrete ways. Visual aids can be helpful in teaching and guiding him, as well as clear, specific language when giving directions and lots of positive one-on-one attention. Isaia puts forth a lot of effort to please other when he feels that they appreciate and accept him. Isaia would love to have a mom-and-dad family. While he says he would also like to have an older brother, Isaia could do really well as an only child, so that he does not have to jockey for parental time and attention. It would be especially helpful for his adoptive folks to have a good understanding of how early neglect and abuse can impact a child’s sense of well being, safety, and development. Isaia’s brother, Dimitry (see C7383), is also being featured on the Northwest Adoption Exchange, Alaska's Waiting Children page. The boys will be counting on their adoptive folks to help them maintain contact with one another. |
