ALANNAH (10/93) is an attractive, engaging teenager, who has truly grown emotionally and behaviorally over the past 18 months. She is usually a pleasure to be around, and she enjoys interacting with caring adults. She looks forward to be a contributing member of a warm, loving family. A very capable young lady in many ways, she is routinely very helpful and does chores without fuss, stepping right in when extra help is needed. And she is able to talk about her needs and thoughts. Alannah is open to trying new things, such as taking dance and art classes. She’s also into sports, and enjoys playing basketball, volleyball, and skateboarding. Of course, she enjoys shopping for clothes, getting her nails done, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. Alannah very much wants to be part of a positive family who will welcome her and claim her as their own. Praise, encouragement, and other such reinforcements help to build her self esteem and to motivate her. Alannah is completing the eighth grade, where she tested in the high-average range for intelligence. Legally free, Alannah came into foster care in March 2002.

While Alannah has had the support of therapeutic resources in the past to help her deal with the many changes in her life, she has not been willing currently to avail herself of such support. Having adoptive parents who ask her to participate with them in family counseling during her transition into their home could be a good way for them to show their love and commitment to Alannah, as well as to show that they value using counseling resources to help family members resolve difficulties and make changes.

Alannah wants a permanent family, where she can have a fair share of one-on-one parental time and attention. She likes children, especially young kids, and can do well with them. Of course, her adoptive folks need to take pride in her biracial African American and Caucasian heritage.
