COLT (1/94) and HARLIN (11/97), or Harley as he is fondly called, are counting on being adopted together. The boys have strong bonds. Harley’s strongest and most significant attachment is to his older brother. Colt and Harley are really wonderful kids who are easy to parent. They just don’t present any real behavioral issues. Legally free, the boys really want to stay in Alaska but we will consider families from the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho – especially families who can see that they get back to Alaska for visits.

A handsome teen with red hair and freckles, Colt is friendly and helpful with a strong sense of fairness to guide him. His wide range of interests and talents include music and sports. His foster mom who fondly refers to him as “a good boy,” says that Colt is well behaved and listens to her and his foster dad.

Colt, who will be a sophomore for the 2009/2010 school year is an intelligent young man who wants to be a chemical engineer. He has excellent language skills and a good working memory. Sports are important to Colt, who according to his foster dad is a talented basketball player. Currently, though, Colt’s lifting weights in anticipation of playing football next fall. Colt is also musical and plays tuba in the school band. Reading and watching movies, especially comedies, are among his favorite pastimes. He is also an avid fisherman. While volunteering at the local Boys & Girl’s club, Colt was offered a summer job because of his good attitude and being a hard-worker.

Harley is an attractive, slender boy with blond hair and blue eyes. According to his foster parents Harley is polite, well behaved, and basically “a good boy.” He interacts well with younger children and he loves animals. Harley, who is very good at basketball, essentially enjoys all sports. He also likes to read and play video games.

Harley will be in the sixth grade for the 2009/2010 school year. He did well in fifth grade, and his teacher was very pleased with his school performance throughout the year. Despite have some neurological impairment that interferes with his ability to think in abstract ways and to understand relationship between concepts, he was able to get A’s and B’s.

Both Colt and Harley have been benefiting from having long-term therapeutic supports in place to help them deal with their feelings of grief and loss, and their anxiety about what the future holds for them. Being willing to participate with them in family counseling during their adoption transition would be a wonderful way for the new folks to demonstrate their love and commitment to them. It would also show the boys that their adoptive parent(s) value using such supports to help family members make changes and deal with painful issues from the past.

The boys have already experienced one adoption disruption due to the parent’s ill health. They really need to know that the family chosen this time will truly be there for them.

While Harley’s foster mom believes that he will do best in a home with a stay-at-home mom or dad so that he can have the attention he so much desires, his worker wants to hear from all parents – couples and single moms and single dads, especially those with strong support systems – who have interest in learning more about these terrific boys.
