Brandon has strong bonds with his current foster parent and his case aide. He is enthusiastic about sharing his accomplishments and successes with them and with other people with whom he feels close. Recently Brandon has been showing more mature behavior and better ability to manage his feelings and responses, and he will benefit greatly from having adoptive folks who can help him maintain this forward momentum. Brandon is finding out that when he takes time to think before acting, he will most often pick positive outcomes. And while he has not yet mastered dealing appropriately with his feelings of frustration and disappointment every time they occur, he has made huge gains, and old coping mechanisms pop up only now and then. Brandon’s adoptive folks will need to provide good structure with clear rules, expectations, limits, and consequences when needed, as well as attentive supervision to help him grow emotionally and behaviorally and strengthen his personal boundaries. Being strong advocates for educational and therapeutic resources will be important in making sure that Brandon has the kind of support system he needs to thrive. Currently, Brandon has therapeutic supports to further assist him with developing skills and strategies to help him regulate his moods, increase his communication and social skills, and to increase his self control. In school, Brandon is benefits from having academic supports to help him catch up to grade level. While Brandon would like to have a mom-and-dad family, he is open to having a single dad. And he is open to having siblings – older siblings could be especially nice, especially if they have good social and family skills to share with him. Brandon’s social worker believes that Brandon would greatly benefit from a family that enjoys being active, loves the outdoors, and has experience with children who have attention difficulties and high energy.
