Developmentally on track and physically healthy, Adriana needs adoptive parent(s) who are skilled in parenting a child who has emotional and behavioral needs that require various therapeutic supports to manage. Being willing to participate with her in her treatment program would be a wonderful way for her adoptive parent(s) to show their love and commitment to her. At this time, Adriana has no one in her corner other than her state social worker and treatment professionals. While Adriana’s issues can be very challenging, she is responsive to a highly structured home environment with a very strict, consistent daily routine and parents who are calm, patient, and firm. In school, she has behavioral supports in place that help her stay on track in the classroom. While it would be ideal for Adriana to be adopted by a family with Native American roots, what is most important is for her adoptive folks to be able to meet her needs and to hang in there with her over the rough spots. The losses Adriana has experienced and her fear of further rejection and abandonment have exacerbated her special needs. With the right background, skills, and commitment, you will be able to help this child achieve permanency as part of a healthy family. Of course, her adoptive folks will need to take pride in her heritage and help her to feel connected to the Native American and Hispanic communities. |
