"Hey, I'm Stephen. I'm a pretty easy-going kid. I like to hang out with my friends. I'm interested in football, baseball, skateboarding, and going on bike rides. My best friend would say I'm energetic, and I like to joke around a lot. He would also say I like to help people, and I really do! I stay in touch with my brother, and I really looked up to him a lot. He was an honor student and always told me to do my best. He was a good example even though he didn't know. I really appreciated having him, even though I didn't always listen to him! I didn't used to like school, but I got used to it, and now I do pretty good. Math and Science are my favorite subjects. I would like to go to college after I graduate. One thing I would want my family to know about me is that if they respect me, I will respect them. I'm looking for a family that lives in the city. I'm not much of a county boy, but I would like a family that goes camping and fishing and are just active doing lots of stuff. I would like a family that has kids, but maybe just other boys, or being an only child would be ok, too. I love animals, especially dogs, so a family with a dog would be great. I've always wanted to go skydiving, so maybe I can do that someday. When I think about what kind of mom I want, I don't want a perfect mom, but a mom who respects me and backs me up on my decisions if they are positive." Stephen is a very likeable teen who has a kind heart. He can especially relate to female role models. He has experienced many significant losses in his life and would like to reconnect to relatives who reside in Oklahoma. Stephen has a good sense of humor and would like to be involved in sports. He has made tremendous progress in improving his past problem behaviors. Stephen has insulin dependent diabetes and needs parents who will model proper nutrition and good health choices, and who will continue teaching Stephen what he is currently learning about how to eat right and take care of himself. The adoption team will be looking for a family that will utilize community and professional resources that are currently benefitting Stephen. A family who is skilled in dealing with issues of hyperactivity, emotional instability, and oppositional behaviors would benefit Stephen. This young man needs respectful, committed, assertive parents who will guide him through his teen years and stick with him even if he makes poor choices. His desire to help others, be in a stable family, and make better choices are all qualities that Stephen can offer a family who is willing to give this young man a chance.
