Aniya will keep you constantly on your toes, into anything and everything as he explores the world around him. He is very curious and has quite the imagination. As he works through his "terrible twos and threes," Aniya will test every family member, but "glows" as he is praised for sharing with others and picking up his toys. Aniya loves to eat and cereal needs to be an available staple in his new home, in addition to an abundance of books and trains. Cashian is the happy-go-lucky child, enjoying the affection and attention of his siblings. As he grows, he continues to make strong gains developmentally and to amaze everyone around him. He absolutely loves music and will kick and dance in his new favorite jumpy chair. Lyric and Xavior are both attending mainstream classrooms and enjoy school and their classmates. They both work hard and are described as "pleasers". Despite multiple school moves, Lyric continues to gain academically and is nearly at grade level in all subjects, with the exception of math and social studies. She excels in art, music, PE, science, reading and writing/speaking. Xavior excels in math and appears on grade level in reading. His previous foster parent reported some concerns with speech in first grade, struggling with specific letters. Lyric, Xavior, and Aniya came into foster care in November 2008. Cashian came into care at birth. Xavior and Lyric are in one foster home and Aniya and Cashian in another. While all four were exposed to drugs prenatally, Lyric had the least exposure and Cashian the most. The foster families arrange and encourage frequent visitation. The children also have a sister (9) who lives with her father and are hopeful they can maintain contact and continue a relationship with her in the future. Lyric presents as mature for her young age, after basically raising her young siblings. She struggles with parentified behaviors and is encouraged to focus on herself and enjoy her childhood. Xavior has difficulty with expressing emotion and can appear closed and "shut down". Aniya can be very challening due to extreme tantrums and demands for attention, and physical aggression with peers and siblings. He requires line of sight supervision. He was reportedly potty-trained prior to foster care, but has since regressed. Cashian is exhibiting one to two monthly seizures and weekly tremors, requiring close monitorring. He has recently been referred for a brain scan and MRI. Some of the birth fathers are supportive of the adoption plan and are interested in mediation. Lyric has twice weekly phone contact with her father who is supportive and encouraging. Although Cashian's birth father would like to participate in mediation, he may not be appropriate. Xavior’s father is deceased. The birth mother was just recently located and it is uncertain as to her interest in mediation and contact. Therapeutic supports, including an adoption preparation class, are in place to assist Lyric and Xavior with the changes in their lives. Lyric has struggled with trust issues but appears to have made some progress in this area. Xavior struggles, at times, with symptoms of depression. Parenting experience and a good grasp of the range of effects that may be associated with prenatal exposure to drugs, especially to methamphetamine, are needed. The children’s worker particularly wants to hear from strong, two-parent families where the parents have lots of patience, time and energy. Nurturing, consistency, structure, stability and lots of attention will go a long way to helping these siblings to flourish. Lyric has expressed interest in an active family, specifically interested in outdoor activities, animals, and organized sports. Xavior would benefit from a strong male role model. Lyric, Xavior, Aniya, and Cashian will bring lots of joy to the right family.
