Meet Colen

Colen is excited to share some of his story through our In-Depth Profiles, a NWAE project that empowers teens to speak directly to potential adoptive families. Learn more about In-Depth Profiles™.

Secret talent: Story telling
Really loves: His bunny
Loves to: Travel
Looking for: A permanent home

There are many examples of Colen being a complete innovator, which speaks to his curiosity. He enjoys knowing the “why” of everything. Why do certain things happen? and how do certain things work? Colen is incredibly creative and is fascinated by the natural world.

Always quick to smile or laugh, Colen is a silly kid with a great sense of humor. With his bright and expressive personality, it’s hard to be around Colen without a smile on your face. Colen is also very inquisitive and, as we’ve mentioned, curious.

Now what you absolutely should know about Colen is this: he’s a plant lover! He has a room filled to the brim with various plants, surrounding him with living things. Colen has long been a plant enthusiast and likes to track the life of a vegetable from seed to consumption. Colen is very involved in planting a seed, watching it grow, and picking the food when it’s all ready.

Quote from Colen''s foster parent that says: Colen, he loves the outdoors. He''s adventurous. He likes to explore and he likes nature. He likes caring for plants, he likes caring for animals.

Colen also loves animals! He has cared for his pet bunny for several years now and is a great pet owner. Colen also recently got a pet salamander, and a pet spider!

When he’s not inside caring for his animals or tending to his plants, Colen’s favorite thing to do is go swimming. A swimming pool, the ocean, a river, if Colen can swim in it, he will!

Currently in the 10th grade, Colen’s classroom environment continues to work well for him. His favorite subject is science, where he can study and learn about the things that most interest him. He’s made tremendous progress in his reading skills! Having a strong teacher or mentor to support and work with Colen helps him be successful in class.

As he’s gotten older, Colen has become very self-reflective and is eager to take on the responsibilities that come with being a teenager. He has been working on independent living skills and doing great! He’s also starting to do some after high school planning with his councilor. When it comes to his ideal adoptive family, Colen hopes to find a local Washington home that ideally has no other kids.

He’s a kid who marches to the beat of his own drum and is much more of an individualist than the kind of kid to follow a crowd. A parent(s) with a strong personality and who is patient, warm, and kindhearted would be a great fit for Colen. The best fit for Colen would be an adoptive family that is very experienced with children and can raise Colen with the kind of parenting that will help him thrive. Colen’s creative mind and drive to discover everything there is to know about everything is so unique and cool. Please let us know if you are a family who can help Colen continue learning and exploring.

Colen would do best in a family as an only child where he gets a lot of one-on-one attention, or where he is the younger sibling of much older children.

Colen is a great kid who is looking for a permanent family to love, support, and guide him throughout his life. If you are interested in learning more about Colen, please let us know. We are excited to find the right adoptive family for this loving plant enthusiast.
